On Monday September 10th , 2012,the newest Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court Justices of Appeal took their oaths of office, allegiance and due execution of office during a brief ceremony.
In extending a congratulatory message, the Acting Chief Judge of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court Her Ladyship Honourable Justice Janice Perrera said the appointments speaks volumes of the hard work and dedication of both Honourable Justice Louise Bledman and Honourable Mario Michel.
“Growth is always necessary, if someone is not growing then words like improvement and achievement as was said by Benjamin Franklyn would be meaningless and so I am sure that you will both continue to grow and learn in the law even though it is at a time when the Court as an institution is faced with several challenges”.
The appointment of His Lordship Honourable Mario Michel as an Appeals Judge is a remarkable achievement in a legal career which began in 1984.
In expressing gratitude to the many people who supported his growth within the legal fraternity, the Saint Lucia Former Education Minister and High Court Judge says he is committed to serving with the highest levels of professionalism and integrity.
“I want to assure everyone who has encouraged, supported and assisted me that I will continue to try throughout the remainder of my career as a judge to do the best that I can in all circumstances as I have always sought to do”.
As an Appeals Court judge, His Lordship Honourable Mario Michel and his colleague Honourable Justice Louise Bledman will both be based in Saint Lucia.
For her part the Guyanese National expressed optimism that the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court will continue to be of positive service to the region.
“I know that I come to the Appleate bench with a lot of expectations of our court and I am happy to be serving with Honourable Mario Michel who has just joined the court also, I can assure that I will continue to give selflessly of my time and to work assiduously in serving the litigants who come to our court to seek justice, I intend together with my colleagues under the esteem leadership of our Chief Justice to continue to contribute to the jurisprudence of our court”.
Their Lordships Honourable Justice Louise Bledman and Honourable Mario Michel were appointed as Appleate Judges to the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court by the Legal and Judicial Reviews Commission.
