The Saint Lucia team of Dala Noel, Kerin Neptune, Lisa Casimie and Jamilla Lansiquot emulated their male counterparts in winning the opening round of Olympics 2016 beach volleyball qualification.
Saint Lucia topped the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association tournament over the weekendat Castaways Beach in Antiga-Barbuda, playing unbeaten and sweepng every series.
Top seeded Saint Lucia advance along with Antigua-Barbuda, French St Martin, St Kitts-Nevis, Dominica and Grenada to face the top six from the rest of the Caribbean (CAZOVA zone) in the next round of the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Continental Cup.
Saint Lucia’s Noel and Neptune beat Antigua’s Sharon Payne and Naheeman Wilson 21-18, 21-9 in the final series; Mali Peters and Rosemarie Simon tied the series, beating Casimie and Lansiquot 21-16, 21-12. In the Golden Set, Noel/Neptune beat Peters/Simon 15-10.
Heading into the final series, Noel and \Neptune overcame French St Martin’s Fleurimene Cassamajor and Bedelya Hunt 21-11, 21-11, but Valerie Damaseau and Audrey Gil beat Casimie and Lansiquot 21-17, 21-18.
In the Golden Set between A teams, Saint Lucia led 11-10, but Valerie Damaseau of French St Martin suffered an injury that ended her participation, giving the win to Saint Lucia 15-10 and the final 2-1 score.
Kerin Neptune, captain of Saint Lucia A, said: “I feel so happy and satisfied, I wouldn’t have done it without the help of my partner and friend. We expected to win and we want to thank the president of our federation, Brian Louisy and our coach ‘Café’ Joao Carlos Moraes de Campos.”
