The security guard who was shot in this morning’s attack at the Corinth Secondary School in Gros Islet, was scheduled to be discharged from Victoria Hospital this afternoon, according to law enforcement sources.

He has been identified as 48-year-old Sylvester Phillip.

Phillip was shot when several bandits entered the school premises between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. Wednesday morning, Nov. 22.

A bullet reportedly “grazed” the back of Phillip’s head. He was transported via ambulance to Victoria Hospital in stable condition.

The bandits damaged doors and windows while searching and attempting to search offices and rooms in the school.

It was not immediately clear what – if anything – was stolen.

Emergency services received the call at 3 a.m.

Students were sent home for the day, but classes are expected to resume on Thursday, Nov. 23.
